The Paradox of Fair Sampling

I'm investigating a surprising question: could trying too hard to make data "fair" actually make bias worse? My controversial idea suggests that when we artificially make our data more diverse, we might accidentally teach our smart systems to focus too much on patterns in minority groups, actually reinforcing stereotypes instead of reducing them.
